Do You Miss A Lot Of Opportunities To Enjoy Your Life?

“Opportunities for enjoying the days are all over the place.  The problem is that life keeps going and we are often too busy to take advantage of the opportunities we see.” – Lorilee Lippincott

enjoy your life

That statement struck me while reading the latest post at the Loving Simple Living blog by my friend Lorilee Lippincott.

We truly miss a lot of unique opportunites to enjoy little things in life, because we are overwhelmed by the busyness and obligations of our every day life.

When we move too fast, we can’t see clearly and we miss a lot of great scenery.

So, here are some suggestions to help you slow down and enjoy what life has to offer you every day:

  1. Wake up early, enjoy that peaceful moment, and do something enjoyable.
  2. Eat slowly … enjoy the taste. Food is a great pleasure that we miss, because we want to finish our meals quickly to move on to the next daily chore.
  3. Meditate. It is probably the best thing you can do to practice living in the moment. Just 10 minutes of sitting quietly and breathing deeply will do wonders for you.
  4. Say yes to a last minute opportunity. You don’t have to prepare for everything. Take advantage of spontaneous opportunities. It adds a lot of fun and excitement to your life.
  5. Make a list of the things that make you happy and intentionally pick one to do every day.
  6. Fully engage in a conversation with a beloved one and shut down all possible interruptions.
  7. Repeat this affirmation throughout the day, “I’m enjoying my day to the max.”

What do you do to enjoy your day to the max?

Please share your suggestions in the comments below.

Great post. Almost every day my husband and I are able to spend 30 minutes to an hour just talking, outside on the swing if the weather is nice enough. It’s something to look forward to all day.

Ah, how I love my breakfast each morning – and the time to leisurely (usually) have that second cup of coffee. And I love making and eating dinner together with my wife – especially when it’s one of our wonderful salad or soup concoctions.

Hi Tohami…It always amazes me how so many of us are thinking along the same lines at the same time. This week my blog post was focused on how important it is to celebrate the important moments and events in your life–because as you say, if you don’t “we are overwhelmed by the busyness and obligations of our every day life” and before you know it the moment is gone. That’s why I make a strong effort to remember and make the most of all the turning points and unique events in my life. After all, in the end I’m convinced that is what we will remember with thanksgiving. Here’s a link to my post in case anyone wants to read more… http://smartliving365.com/honoring-the-special-turning-points-in-our-lives/

Thanks Kathy for sharing your great article. Yes, we do need to remember what makes us truly happy. We shouldn’t live like a cog in a machine!
